Volunteer Wellington 2022 Mentoring Programme

This year, Volunteer Wellington - in collaboration with Aly McNicoll of the New Zealand Coaching and Mentoring Centre and made possible through the generous financial support of the Wellington Community Trust - is running a six month long mentoring programme for people involved in managing and developing volunteer programmes within our community member organisations. Held between June and November, the programme will comprise of two strands

  • One for mentors, and
  • One for mentees

Because time is a precious resource, the programme has been designed to fit into the busy lives of people working in volunteer-involving organisations.

The Mentee Strand will include:

  • Initial support to encourage you in the step you’ve taken to be a mentor, including helping you to ascertain the unique skills you can bring to a mentoring partnership
  • Training and check-in sessions facilitated virtually by Aly McNicoll
  • Being matched with a mentee whom you will mentor for the 6 months (meeting with them roughly once per month)
  • On-going support from Volunteer Wellington during the programme as you fill your mentoring role
  • Easily accessible online resources that you can refer to at any time
  • A social event after work during the programme, because it can’t be all work and no fun!

  • Initial support to encourage you in the step you’ve taken to access mentoring, including helping you to ascertain the key goals you have for your mentoring
  • Training and check-in sessions facilitated virtually by Aly McNicoll
  • Being matched with a mentor who you will meet with during the programme (meeting with them roughly once per month)
  • A social event after work during the programme, because it can’t be all work and no fun!

Things to consider:

  • Participation in the programme is a 6 month long commitment. While we have designed the programme to keep time involved to a minimum, we do want mentoring partnerships to stay together for the duration of the programme (except in the case of emergencies, of course!)
  • Volunteer Wellington will seek to match participants with a suitable mentor/mentee. We also acknowledge that we may not always get this right! If matches turn out to be unsuitable, we will work with mentors and mentees to re-match with another person
  • Participation in this programme will see you accessing training, resources and support of the highest calibre. However, due to the generous financial assistance of the Wellington Community Trust, we are able to offer all of this to valued Volunteer Wellington member organisations at no cost!
